Accra, March 05, GNA – Mr. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister for Youth and Sports has urged young footballers and athletes to emulate former Black Stars captain, the late John Eshun, who exhibited high sense of discipline and nationalism throughout his career.
According to the minister, the late Eshun, who was laid to rest last week, Essikadu in Sekondi, showed a great sense of commitment to the national course, which he executed with so much discipline.
« The late Eshun demonstrated a greater commitment to the national course, with a great sense of nationalism and self-discipline, throughout his playing years and never attracted a card.
« His enviable record of not getting a card is worth emulating, because it is pure discipline and I would urge players to emulate and imbibe in them such discipline.
« They should remember that, no matter what, discipline is the key and it would help them succeed in their various endeavors, » he added.
The late Eshun, who was instrumental in preparing and developing various football teams in Ghana since 1981, captained the Black Stars from 1968 to 1974 and also captained Africa eleven from 1974 to 1975.
He also played at the Olympics Games in Mexico in 1968 and Munich, Germany in 1972.
