Commey fails in title defence as second round knock down dazed him

  15 Décembre      27        Sport (12734),

Accra, Dec. 15, GNA – Ghana’s Richard Commey lost his International Boxing Federation ((IBF) Lightweight title in a dramatic fashion, when he was knocked out in the second round by 22-year old Honduran-American Teofimo Lopez in the early hours of Sunday at the famous Madison Square Garden in New York, United States of America (USA).
Lopez now with a record of 15 fights, with 15 victories and 12 knock-outs was highly tipped and hyped by the American media to ride over the much experienced James Town born Commey who lost for the third time to bring his career record to 30 fights and three defeats, all away from home.
It was indeed a hell of a fight for Commey who could not recover from a knock down in the second round and suffered series of powerful punches and deadly hooks  from Lopez in the second round forcing the referee to intervene to stop the fight and save him from further punishment.
It was a well executed plan by to attack and take advantage to end the fight early and this worked to perfection as he defeated the Ghanaian to win world title on Sunday morning.
Commey, however described the defeat as part of the sport and vowed to return stronger soon.
