Covid-19: GHALCA calls for Government support
Accra, April 11, GNA- Mr. Emmanuel Akpabli, the Chairman of the Ghana Amputee League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has called on the Government to come to their aid and support the amputee fraternity and persons with disability in these trying times.
In an interview with the GNA Sports, he said, club owners were doing their best to cater for the players but their efforts were not yielding since they’re not working following the partial lockdown due to the Covid19.
Feeding at least 285 amputee players in the country, Mr. Akpabli said had been a huge burden on the Association since they’re currently not working.
« We currently have about 285 amputee players in camps across the country and they all moved to camp because of the pandemic in order to survive and this has become a huge burden for the club owners.
“All our source of support to cater for the players has blocked because of the Coronavirus situation at hand which is a critical issue for us » he said.
Mr. Akpabli said, as a Chairman of the Association, he was doing his maximum best to help the amputees but his efforts alone could not be enough hence the appeal to the government to come to their aid.
« The government should give us some attention during this period because we the disabled persons can’t go out to work. As Chairman of the Association, I am doing my best to help them which has put so much pressure on me.
« We haven’t heard from the Gender Ministry and other stakeholders responsible but we have heard that the government has enrolled plans for the disabled persons. So we are reminding the Gender Ministry that we are part of the plans.”
The Chairman, however, appealed to corporate entities to render their support as they have been doing to support other needy persons in this period.
