Abuja, Dec. 18, 2019 (NAN) The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Wednesday, began a three-day training for 100 journalists and new media practitioners in Kebbi, North West Nigeria on the ethics of the professionalism.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was organised by the NUJ in collaboration with De-Maz Consultancy Services.
Alhaji Aliyu Jajirma, the chairman of the union in the state, said the aim of the training was to bring together experts on conventional media and online journalism for better practice.
“As you are aware, the new media is today taking its rightful place in the business of information dissemination.
“This is occasioned by the easy access to a wide range of information with speed provided by the new media platforms,’’ he said.
Jajrima expressed the hope that the training would shape the skills and improve their technical know-how in discharging their responsibilities as members of the forth estate of the realm.
“The workshop is also expected to change the face of the new media practice in the state for the better,’’ he added.
He called on the participants to utilise what they would acquire and always remain guided by the ethics of the profession.
“Only ethical conduct can define our contribution to good governance and national development,’’ he said.
In a remark, Gov. Atiku Bagudu said government had made conscious efforts to reposition the state-owned media to meet the yearnings of the people.
“All this is done in our effort to ensure the freedom of information and the dissemination of same in order for the public to be more enlightened and conscious of government activities’’.
Represented by Alhaji Babale Umar, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bagudu lauded the union for organising the training.
He assured that the state government would support the media to exercise their constitutional rights.
