Accra, June 25, GNA – The Accra Technical University (ATU) on Friday planted trees at the University’s new campus at Mpehuasem in Accra, in line with Government’s Green Ghana Agenda.

The staff and students are expected to plant about 100 different tree species acquired from the Forestry Commission of Ghana.

Professor Samuel Nii Odai, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, said the exercise was to inculcate the habit of tree planting in the students.

He said they had already planted about 10 trees at the old campus and committed to making the new campus green and forested.

Prof. Odai said the new campus had been equipped with a state-of-the-art technological equipment to prepare students for both the local and international job markets and that Electrical Engineering students would soon move there.

Mr Malik Mino Ereira, a representative for the Waste Segregation and Composting Movement, commended the University for the foresight.

Madam Soni Valecha, a representative for Planet Waves, an organisation focused on preventing the earth from becoming one big landfill, encouraged the ATU to join the campaign for responsible waste management.

The Mpehuasem Campus was inaugurated on 6th December, 2018 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

It spans about 160 acres of land and currently has five laboratories for the faculties of Engineering and Built Environment, funded by the Government through the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

It has laboratories for Automotive Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Interior Design, Upholstery Technology, and Computerised Numerical Control Machine Centre.
