Achada Igreja, Sep 2 (Inforpress) – The Minister of Agriculture and Environment acknowledged that Cabo Verde is “partially” dependent on the import of the natural enemy against armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), but guaranteed that “all conditions” have already been created for its multiplication.
Gilberto Silva gave these guarantees to journalists, in Picos Acima, in the municipality of São Salvador do Mundo, after the launch of the natural enemy against armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) Trichogramma, a bet on combating the pest in a “more environmentally friendly” way.
“We are here in a symbolic act because the release of a natural natural enemy against armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), which is an extremely dangerous pest, means a lot of work behind it”, he demonstrated, stressing that many training courses were carried out, import of genetic material, laboratories with specialist technicians and resource mobilization.
The government official was pleased with the presence of the farmers, since, in his opinion, it is necessary to explain to them how this fight works, so that they can participate actively.
